Campaign Rationale

My Corporate Identity is the Eclipse Resort, an elite Hotel set in space. The Logo is an image of an eye, with stars in the pupil above the words’ Eclipse Resort’. Underneath that is the tag line “if only…” The name, Eclipse, comes from the fact that, along with having connotations with Space, eclipse can also signify the end of an era. With the eclipse, the old ideas are passed over, allowing the new to take over and shine.

As a space resort plays on the human yearning to be up among the stars, the Eclipse Resort has a rather wistful and nostalgic theme. This is exemplified by the tag line – ‘if only’. This tagline plays on the fact that a Space Resort is such a futuristic concept and refers back to this yearning.

As going into space is so expensive, and also because Eclipse Resort is the first of it’s kind and will corner the market, the target audience is the rich.
Much like the award winning Ad campaign of Paronella Park, my Company will also target those who have already been to Eclipse, or those who already know about my product. This ad, combined with the awards winning service, will get previous customers coming back, and will spread through word of mouth. However, unlike Paronella Park, Eclipse will not be confined to one small area. Focusing the ad campaign on one area, or even one country, would hinder the profits of Eclipse, as there are only so many millionaires in the world. However, with this viral campaign, Eclipse does not have to spend so much on marketing, but instead let the contented customers spread the word, complemented by subtle reminders in the form of advertisements.

As the Eclipse Resort will be the first Space Resort in existence, it will garner quite a lot of attention before it’s grand opening. During this time, a minimalist approach to advertising would be in effect, as the press coverage would do most of the work at this time. However advertising is still needed to gain brand recognition, so that when the advertising increases later on there will still be that instant association with Eclipse Resort.

FINAL

So, I’m going to see if I can add the pdf file of my final presentation. Most of what you see has been updated slightly (or not so slightly) since I updated last, plus it will get rid off that horrible shade of blue that Photoshop turned everything :/

Nope, not working. Stuff it, I’ll just leave it out. It’s not like you can’t get a fair idea of what the finished product is like, plus the lecturers already have a copy of the exact same thing that I was going to put up here.

And one thing that I forgot to say in my presentation, is that I chose the name ‘Eclipse’ because, to use a tacky tag line I was originally thinking of using, “It’ll eclipse all of your other holidays” harharhar. But yeah, it signifies the dawning of a new era, and the ‘death’ of the old industries.

Sorta

Music

Looking for some music which would accurately convey the theme of my advertisement. The beginning of this song is exactly what I’m after, however after the beginning it is not quite as happy as I’d like it to be:

This song is more like what I’m after, however not quite. It is quite upbeat, but it doesn’t have enough of the nostalgia and wistfulness that I’m after.

This is almost exactly what I’m after.

Flash

As we have discovered before, Flash plus WordPress do not like each other. So here is a blah version of my web ad.

ECLIPSE-fin

I would’ve liked the ‘If only’ part to come in a little later, because the ‘if only’ is not said in the same loud, in your face manner as the name of the hotel. It’s quieter, almost an afterthought said aloud to yourself.

Stationary

So here’s my finished letterhead (hehe, the more places I put it, the less chance I have of loosing it if the computer explodes. Computers are notorious for exploding you know, the Soca lab had to be rebuilt three times last year because of exploding computers. *nodnodnod* I would know, I’m a student this year *nodnod*)

Letter

Bleh, this shade of blue looks quite ugly once it’s uploaded. On the computer it’s fine, but here… *shudder*

And here’s the business card:

And here’s the pen:

Billboard

billtext

So, here’s my billboard. I may still play with the text placement and stuff, and I might edit the background colour slightly so that it fits the colour theme of the ad. I took the logo out of the ‘Eclipse resort’ because, well basically because the entire picture has strong visual links to the logo, and having the logo in there made it a little too cluttered. Need to make the ‘Resort’ part more visible too. It kinda fades into the background at the moment.

Stuff I need

Just to remind me of what I need to do for this assignment:

  • Street Poster (A3) – would it have a street poster though? Where would it advertise? No, I’m going to go with a similar approach to Paronella Park. The people who I’m advertising to are people who already know about it. As my Space Hotel is the first one in existence, it would have received extensive coverage when it first opened. All the marketing is aimed at reminding people, by using images similar to the logo (see billboard), and getting the super-rich people to want go back. However, they would have billboards, which is what I’ve done.
  • Stationary theme – business card, letterhead, promotional stuff (aka pen) – DONE
  • Print Advert (B&W, and colour)
  • Web Banner – DONE
  • Animated Logo

The Final Logo

So, I’ve deicided n my logo for the Corporate ID, and it is, dun dun duuuun

Web

I need to better integrate the text with the image. And possibly choose some better colours. The logo that I’ve designed is prolly a little dark and, well too monochrome to be an effective logo. And the tagline – If only – needs to be better integrated as well.

Logo Designs

Mock-ups of possible Logo designs.

Resort2

Prolly the most professional logo that I’ve done, and it will prolly be the one that I’m going to go with. It works with the eclipse theme, and I like the ‘negative space’ earth shape. I’ll have to wirk a bit on the star, to make it less … cartoony.

Eyelogo

This one is prolly my favourite logo. It has a similar theme to what I am going for in my advertising, however if I went with this I would have to think up another name for my company (maybe) as this does not fit the ‘Eclipse’ Theme. Also this logo looks rather similar to the Big Brother Logo. However, as this theoretical company is theoretically in the future, by that time everyone will have, theoretically, forgotten about Big Brother. Theoretically.

EclipseResort

Fits the theme of a resort, and has ties to eclipse. There isn’t really anything to mark it any different to the hundreds of other resort logos though.

earth2au

earth2

One of my first few ideas for the theme of ‘Eclipse’. They prolly have a few too many colours though.

More Logos

Deciding to go with an eclipse logo, but to turn it on its head and to have an eclipse of the Earth. That way, people will automatically b e able to distinguish it from any other eclipse logos and it will be unique.

Decided to look up some logos that feature the Earth, to gather ideas as to how I can do it. I especially like the first two logos.

And another WIP logo of mine:

earth2

Looking at it, I quite like how the Earth turned out. What I don’t like is the flare and the halo. Although I should prolly look at doing some simplistic designs as well. Although probably too many colours are used.
